Olivier Lorquin

Olivier Lorquin joined Galerie Dina Vierny in the early 1980s, working alongside Dina Vierny. He initially continued the artistic commitments of his mother, providing dedicated work on Poliakoff, Doucet, Gilioli, and Naïve painters. He also upheld the gallery’s tradition of representing sculpture, which had been a defining feature since 1947 with the promotion of new sculptors.

This began with Robert Couturier, a former collaborator of Maillol, who worked with Galerie Dina Vierny for nearly thirty years. This collaboration coincided with the completion of Couturier’s catalogue raisonné in 1998 and a major retrospective at the Musée Maillol in 2005, celebrating its centenary.

Olivier Lorquin frequently presented Gilioli and collaborated with his widow, Babet, for the classification of the artist’s archives and body of work. He is now one of the leading experts on Gilioli’s work.

The non-conformist Russian artists, first showcased on rue Jacob in 1973, also played a significant role in the gallery’s programming during the 1980s and 1990s, thanks to the historical context of Perestroika and the fall of the Soviet Union. Bulatov and Yankilevsky were featured on numerous occasions. Ilya Kabakov had his first solo exhibition within the gallery’s walls in 1985, followed by other presentations during the period of his famous “Communal Kitchen” creation.

Olivier Lorquin
From 1995 onwards, Olivier Lorquin divided his time between the Musée Maillol, where he served as director, and rue Jacob. This period marked a new turning point in the gallery’s history. In the 2000s, numerous photographers, including Jerry Schatzberg and Frank Horvat, became prominent in the gallery’s programming, with the gallery becoming their primary representative. Photographers Bert Stern and Jean-François Jonvelle were also added to this list.

In the late 2000s, Franco-Israeli artist Ra’anan Levy, who became a close friend and primary dealer for Olivier Lorquin, joined the stable of artists at Galerie Dina Vierny.

After several collaborations with his two sons, Pierre and Alexandre, throughout the 2010s, Olivier Lorquin decided to pass the baton to them in 2021.
