Dina Vierny Exhibition view, "Judit Reigl Dance of Death", Budapest Fine Arts Musuem
On the occasion of Judit Reigl’s centenary, the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest exhibits her latest series of drawings. During her youth, Judit Reigl discovered the paintings of the museum that deeply marked her plastic vocabulary. The exhibition is an opportunity to discuss the artist’s works with those of Courbet, Léonard, Delacroix, Fra Angelico, Cranach, Dürer, Gaddi, Goya, El Greco, Hans Baldung Grien and other masters.

The Dance of Death series exhibited on this occasion is inspired by the woodcuts of Hans Holbein the Younger (1526). In Judit Reigl’s drawings, the characters dance, hug and fight. The many skulls present in the series are not to be seen as symbols of death but of life. The presentation is accompanied by a film showing the artist in his studio working on the elaboration of this major work.
