A masterpiece by Aristide Maillol (1861–1944), La Nuit paves the way for a renewal of sculpture through the lens of archaic Greek statuary.

La Nuit (created between 1902 and 1908) fits within a cube, though with a more massive form than La Méditerranée. A symbol of rest and serenity, she is curled in on herself, her face hidden between her arms, which rest on her raised knees.
