Opening a Maillol exhibition nowadays no longer serves to demonstrate the value or introduce the public to the existence of this remarkably prolific work. Such an exhibition allows us to reassess the significance of the break between Maillol's art and that which precedes it.
This new interpretation of a now-famous work also reminds us of the origin of modernity, which has led plastic arts towards their unique evolution. Due to its diversity and quality, it compels a dissociation from all other movements that have traversed the history of sculpture, particularly those of the 19th century.
