Texts by Dina Vierny and Bertrand Lorquin.
This book was published in June 1985 on the occasion of Ilya Kabakov's first solo exhibition at Dina Vierny gallery.
Russian conceptual painter Ilya Kabakov is part of an artistic tradition influenced by Marcel Duchamp. The latter was the first to demonstrate that art does not necessarily rely on a plastic support, but can be born from an idea. This daring approach, in which abstract thought gives life to objects, left its mark on the history of art. Duchamp considered that the idea, the "cosa mentale", became in itself a work of art.
