Maillol at the Tuileries
November 1963 marked a momentous date for French sculpture. Malraux, the minister for Cultural Affairs, defending his budget before the National Assembly, declared: ‘Dina Vierny has kindly donated to France an imposing collection of sculpted works by Maillol. It goes without saying that Maillol is the greatest outdoor sculptor of our time. It was thus decided to create the new Musée-Jardin Maillol in the gardens of the Louvre.
