Dina Vierny Gallery is delighted to present the exhibition "Ra'anan Levy - Gravures", the successor to the exhibition of the artist's recent works shown in autumn 2020.
For this new exhibition, the gallery brings together a selection of 31 prints produced over the past 10 years at ARTE, focusing on a little-known aspect of the artist's work, that of his frantic search for the subtle elaboration of his large-scale canvases. With a certain taste for the creative process and monochrome, which perfectly serves the dramatic effect of his pictorial approach, Ra'anan Levy explores recurring themes that have been treated to the point of obsession for over a decade: mirrors, empty interiors, portraits and self-portraits, manholes, books, hands, nudes... Here, he exhausts the motif and uses a technique that allows several states and possibilities to be envisaged, thus authorizing all manner of repetitions and novelties. Rich, audacious and complex, his etchings combine various processes such as drypoint, aquatint, etching, scraping... Like a magician, Ra'anan Levy plays with his tools to create intense, dark ensembles where dreams and realities fragment. In the tradition of Piranesi, Borgès and Rembrandt, he creates small worlds of inner poetry.

An engraving by Ra'anan Levy (L'écorché, 2021, etching on Hahnemülhe paper) has been specially published for the exhibition (limited to 15 copies).
A catalog featuring an extended selection of 56 etchings and a text by print historian Maxime Préaud accompanies the exhibition.
