From 22 September to 22 December 2016, the Dina Vierny gallery is showing around forty photographs by Frank Horvat taken between 1950 and 2013, making up a series he himself called CON photos.

"This trivial attribute, applied to photographs, would require an explanation. But I'd like you to find it for yourself. I'll just tell you that if some of these make you smile, you're on the right track, and that you'll soon recognise a 'stupid' photo when you see one.

(...) That, in a nutshell, is the miracle of a 'dumb' photo: it reveals something, but there's no reason to think that the photographer was aware of it!

Edouard Boubat was fond of quoting a Borges paradox: 'A writer cannot be a great writer if he only writes what he thinks he's writing. By the same token, you can't decide to take a 'dumb' photo: it might be given to you."
